Short answer. A gable is a triangle, and its area is half what it looks like: with an 8 m base and a 2 m height it is 8 m². You will buy more than that because of the angled cuts. With standard-length sheets the waste reaches 51%. With every sheet rolled to its own length it is 21%. The difference on a single gable is about 1,140 UAH.
Why a gable wastes more than anything else
A wall is rectangular and a sheet covers it whole. A gable is triangular: with vertical cladding every sheet has its own length and all but the centre one are cut on the diagonal. It is the only place on a house where waste is calculated in advance rather than added as a percentage “just in case”.

The twenty-one per cent is unavoidable: those are the diagonal cuts, and they exist however you buy. The other thirty is simply offcuts you paid for and threw away.
The diagonal cut is the main risk on a gable
An ordinary wall has few cuts. A gable has as many cuts as it has sheets. Every cut is an exposed edge, and how you made it decides how long the gable lasts.

A cut edge on a gable is visible from below along the whole slope. If it rusts, it will be noticed from the street, not somewhere under the roof.
Vertical or horizontal
Vertical: the wave runs top to bottom, water drains along it, and there are exactly as many cuts as sheets. Horizontal looks different, but every sheet still has to be trimmed on both sides to the slope, and the waste comes out no lower. For profiled sheeting vertical cladding is the practical choice because it follows the direction of drainage.

Step 1. Measure the base and the height
The width of the house across the gable and the height from the tie beam to the ridge. Two numbers are enough — we work out every sheet length.

It changes the cutting list. If you have not decided, take vertical — it is the standard option for profiled sheeting.

What we do not do
We do not clad gables and we do not travel for on-site measuring. We work out the cutting list from your two dimensions, roll each sheet to its own length and deliver. The diagonal cuts are yours to make — the line does not cut on a diagonal.
FAQ
Which profile suits a gable? T10 or T20f. These are wall profiles, and a gable carries no snow load.
Is a gap needed behind the cladding? Yes. The sheet is fixed to battens rather than flat against the wall, otherwise condensation never dries.
Can I use leftovers from the roof? You can, if the coating and colour match. But steel batches differ slightly in shade, and on adjoining planes that shows.
How is the diagonal edge finished? With a barge board along the slope. It covers the cut and gives a finished look.
