Short answer. Profiled sheeting has three dimensions and they get confused with each other. Length is not standard here — you set it. Width only matters as the working width, after the lap: covered area is what you pay for. Thickness of 0.40-0.70 mm changes mass and load capacity, but far less than rib height does. Below is the full table for our range and what each dimension actually controls.

The pattern is immediate: the taller the rib, the narrower the working width. Steel goes into the height of the profile, so a strip off the same coil covers less area. That is why T57 costs more per metre not only through its geometry but because you physically need more of it for the same square metre.
Length: the dimension does not exist until you name it
We have no standard lengths. The sheet is rolled to your size, and that changes the arithmetic: no vertical waste at all, and no transverse joint on the slope. The practical limit is not the line but transport, and getting the sheet onto the roof without bending it.
Metal tile follows a different rule: its length is a multiple of the 350 mm step, because you cannot cut inside a step. What that costs in steel is covered separately.
Width: why only the working width counts
Sheets lay with a one-rib side lap. What stays covered is the working width from the table above. Price is per square metre of covered area, so that is the only width in the arithmetic.
The commonest error is counting on overall width. Then you come up short by exactly the sum of the laps, and you find out on installation day. How to count correctly — on a roof slope and on a fence.
Thickness: mass is calculable, stiffness is not what you think

The derivation: steel density 7.85 g/cm³, so a flat 0.45 mm sheet weighs 3.5 kg/m², plus about 15% for the developed width of the profile.
And then the part missing from everyone else’s dimension tables. To a first approximation, resistance to deflection scales with thickness to the first power and rib height squared — that is how any thin-walled section behaves. In numbers: moving from T20r to T35 is (35 ÷ 20)² = 3.06 times the stiffness. Moving from 0.45 to 0.70 mm is 0.70 ÷ 0.45 = 1.56 times, and 56% more steel to pay for.
Conclusion: if the sheet sags over the span, raise the rib, not the thickness. Thickness is chosen against dents and handling damage — a different problem.
Metal tile dimensions
Classic: 20 mm high, 350 mm tile step, 1,100 mm working width, 0.45-0.50 mm steel, minimum pitch from 14°. Era, Madera and Venera are 15 mm high on the same 350 mm step and the same thickness.
The main difference from profiled sheeting is not the dimensions but the module. Sheet length is a multiple of 350 mm, and that is where the offcuts come from — offcuts profiled sheeting never produces.

We do not roll profiles to other manufacturers’ designations and we do not change geometry to order. One variable only: sheet length.

Step 1. Pick the profile by job and pitch
Fences and facades — T10 or T20f. Roofs — by minimum pitch from the table.
Step 2. Count sheets by working width
Section width divided by working width, rounded up. Overall width plays no part.
Step 3. Name the length

FAQ
What sheet size for a fence? Width is the working width: 1,155 mm on T10 or 1,100 mm on T20f. Length equals the fence height, and you set it.
Why do different sellers quote different widths? Because they quote different things — some overall, some working. Only working widths are comparable, and those are the only ones we publish.
What thickness for a roof? Whatever carries the snow load at the batten spacing chosen — the designer calculates that. We do not name a thickness on your behalf.
Do you use standard national designations? Our profiles carry their own names, T10 to T57. Geometric equivalence is visible in the table above: rib height and working width are what people actually compare.
